Paranthaman has been voicing strong opposition to the TVK on behalf of the DMK. Shortly after Law Minister CTR Nirmal Kumar criticized Paranthaman, stating that his standing within the party was poor, the DMK leadership announced him as the candidate for the Maduranthakam constituency, where a by-election is set to take place.
