Ahead of Tamil Nadu’s Assembly elections in two months, political parties’ announcements of cooperative bank loan waivers have spurred a rush for loans. From April to December 2025, cooperative banks disbursed Rs 83,000 crore across all categories, up from Rs 72,000 crore in the same period last year—a Rs 11,000 crore increase.
