The Central Government has granted permission to 17 banks operating in India to directly import gold and silver from abroad. Permission to import gold has been accorded to banks including Axis Bank, Bank of India, Deutsche Bank, Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, and Punjab National Bank.
