A spacecraft from Japan has successfully launched into space with the mission of collecting dust and rock fragments from Phobos—a moon of Mars—and bringing them back to Earth. Scientists state that if this endeavor succeeds, it will mark the first time that samples from Mars or its moons have been brought to Earth for research purposes.
