In the Mumbai municipal elections, former Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai campaigned in wards with a large Tamil population. His remarks about Mumbai during the campaign were seized upon by the opposition and became controversial. However, despite this controversy, all the candidates for whom Annamalai campaigned have won.
