Southern Railway announced MRTS services between Velachery and St. Thomas Mount will start on March 10, 2026, after delays since 2008 due to land issues and litigation. This 5-km extension improves peak-hour links from Tambaram to Chennai Beach amid reduced Beach-Chengalpattu trains for Egmore redevelopment.
