There is a route from Periyakulam to Kodaikanal via Kumbakkarai and Adukkam that features 13 hairpin bends. This is the most dangerous road in Tamil Nadu. A journey of just 26 km takes one to the summit of Kodaikanal, at an elevation of 2,133 meters. It is this elevation that makes the journey along the Adukkam road more perilous than the trip via the Ooty-Kalhatty road.
